Reading contest 2012 Winners.
This year’s Reading Contest results are as follows.
Of all the things that happen at Hill Blooms nothing is as important as getting children to read. The following is a list of students who, from a Hill Blooms’ point of view, have got their future tethered to a habit that ensures thinking skills.

Here are a few details that need parental attention.

1.Blooms’ Access to Computers and the Internet: All students need access to computers and internet to function effectively. Resources including notes, tests, photographs and videos are being made available on the school website www.hillblooms.in and www.educomponline.com . Sending them to internet cafes or fr iends’ homes for internet access can be highly counterproductive and I would request all parents to provide them with computers and well supervised net access at home. Getting them to use the internet responsibly is a challenge we have to meet that is as important as developing their Math skills and language skills.
2. Review and Reinforcement at Home: After class 5, it is rather unrealistic to expect any Bloom to be an effective student if she/he does not sit down and read for a minimum of 3 hours at home. The only exceptions are differently-abled children and children with special needs. At Hill Blooms, Class 6 is being targeted as a class when all basic parameters such as attention span, hand writing, reading habits, study habits, volunteering attitude, social skills etc. are monitored and fine tuned. Parents are requested to support the effort. Tuitions after class is not the logical solution or the first line of defense when confronted with poor academic performance.
 3. Newspaper Reading: Blooms who do not follow news everyday after class 5 are probably heading for a future with lesser language skills, lesser general knowledge, lesser understanding of the world around them and unless miracles do happen a somewhat less than spectacular learning curve. In other words, being complacent about reading of newspapers at home is a luxury no career conscious parent or Bloom can afford to indulge in. Please support the school’s initiative to make all Blooms read newspapers. At Hill Blooms we regard it as the single biggest make or break learning trait in a student.
4.Skill sets : Individual skill sets do not happen overnight. Fortunately many of our parents are doing all they can for their children to build up skills. Adding a musical instrument to the target set is highly recommended and goes a long way when it comes to making their leisure time creative and enjoyable. It also gives them a massive presence among peers.

5.Sahodaya Kalolsavam: District level Sahodaya Kalolsavam 2012 will be held at two venues in the month of October. Details will be communicated to participants.
6.Participation in Bloomsday Program: Bloomsday 2012 will be celebrated on two days and are tentatively set for December 20th and December 21st 2012. Doubling Bloomsday is done with the intention of increasing participation for as many Blooms as possible. It is also hoped that parents will find participation less tiring and time consuming.
Those students intending to participate in Bloomsday (school annual day) stage programs, are required to give their names to class teachers before 14th September 2011. Cost is estimated to be between Rs.1500 and Rs.2500. Transparent accounting will be maintained by teachers in charge and conveyed to parents.

7.Summative Assessment1: SA1 will start on 18th September and all Blooms are advised to get organized for the exam. Please be advised that during exams afternoon session will not be there. School buses will start from school during exams at 12-30 in the afternoon.

All of us here at Hill Blooms wish you and the family a very happy Onam and a prosperous year ahead.
May the force of goodness always go with you.

(Signed)
